Aims and objectives of the course

The course offers to students of the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the University “La Sapienza” of Rome a broad and contextual overview as well as a critical assessment of the changing relation between Culture(s), Citizenship(s) and Governance within the EU context. This is meant to lead to a fuller comprehension of the future of the EU.

In particular, this Jean Monnet module on the European Culture(s), Citizenship(s) and Democratic participation aims at:

a) introducing the students to the EU integration process;

b) developing knowledge about EU policies and programmes in the field of Culture, Citizenship and democratic participation;

c) developing a critical mind set about a multicultural Europe.

This Jean Monnet Module on European Culture(s), Citizenship(s) and Governancehas th ambition of immediately and directly contributing to:

a) raise of the awareness of European integration studies within the university;

b) improve the knowledge in a very important field  for the future of Europe;

c) initiate the development of a critical and comparative mind-set amongst students and teaching staff;

d) create the favourable conditions to host other Jean Monnet related activities;

e) develop awareness and understanding of EU programmes and actions;

f)  help the students to develop the skills to move freely within Europe exploiting the opportunity that it offers at social, economical, cultural and political level fully;

g) inspire students to indulge in career activities within the framework of the issues proposed by the module, at private or public level;

h) create a consistent “reflection opportunity” on the issues related to the concepts proposed by the module, in order to systematize the information..
